They all have remained the same, or are still in great need of improvement. Communication has improved much more than the other aspects from what I have seen so far.
Add: Grouping mechanics Player counts Matchmaking logic Bland maps No proxy chat
Clearly there is about 2-3 years work left, at least, to turn this into a AAA release
The concept is great, but the development methodology, the testing methodology and overall execution is sub-par. |

CCP as 2 versions of dust
the release version-which only they have access to atm
and the beta version-which we are playing the hell out of
they add content to the beta to see how it works and if it does it is then implemented into the release game what we are playing is constantly updated and subject to change every single day .
You make a valid point.
Only thing is that at some stage, the version you refer to also needs to be tested in the wild. That's like a release candidate version. And that is then fine tuned and released.
That activity takes time.
So, the question is, that its already the end of October, and given that many core elements are problematic, is it realistic to expect an AAA release before 2013?
I hope I'm wrong, and they've got a polished gem but with just over two months left till the end of the year, its a tough job to do....

You don't get it do ya? Lol when eve came out in 2003 it was bugged, and half the features in the game now were not present on release, its taken time to get it to what it is now. Yes dust is buggy, yes it has problems, but over time it will improve. If this was going to be a disk release title then there would be worries but its not, its digital. So because its digital that means its constantly evolving and having bugs fixed and features added. This is not final release code, its beta code. Upon final release it may still have some bugs and not all announced features will be present but that will change over time. alot of people are coming into this BETA expecting a final release code, well it don't work that way. A game of this magnitude takes alot of time to develop and fix, the daily downtimes are not for ccp to go make tea and shoot pool........the daily downtimes are for fixing bugs. If ccp took dust offline altogether to fix it then y'all would be moaning about that too. If everything is not ironed out FOR release then it will be ironed out bit by bit AFTER release, just like eve was.......and look where eve is now. It took them 10 YEARS to get EVE where it is now by that time PS5 would be on it's way. What will happen if PS4 drops and gets a planetside 2 port or Sony decides to give the Planetside devs a crack at MAG 2? 10 years is to long for a console game. This is why I said months ago CCP should just take it to the PC and be done with it.
I agree with Regis.
And I do get it. I've been saying in so many posts, there is at least three years of work to bring dust up to scratch to AAA standard.
There is no doubt that there will be a MAG 2 on PS4, probably a launch title.
The problem for ccp is that there will be better quality fps games, maybe not as deep in terms of mmo as dust, but better game play, and people won't play dust if it remains like this....
All a developer needs to do is make a 32vs32 game with clan battle support, solid FPS mechanics, a bit of eye candy and a perpetual clan leader board, and that'll be the end of dust on the console...
Now look at the sentence above and you see what ccp need to fix to stay in the game for a long time....
- increase player counts - improved FPS mechanics - better grouping mechanics - better graphics
Those four things, done properly, will keep the game kicking with solid numbers from launch, for years, because dust already has the persistence and open universe sorted.... |

Just as deluded with anyone that thinks that there's going to be a MAG 2.
MAG was extremely successful for new IP.
It had the most active community out of all the PS3 shooters.
There is huge commercial potential in a MAG 2, just needs to be executed properly.
You can bet it will be made for PS4, it will have 512 player battles, clan wars, better MMO and persistence mechanics and I'm sure whomever develops it will make more than 3 maps for every game mode.....
MAG was too early, it needed better hardware and players with better connections, which by 2014, will be available.....
Just you wait and see. |

Peace B
Check the sales figures and laugh at your own comment. Whether you thought it was successful or not is irrelevant. Check your facts before you mess with me. You lose.
And Th3rdsun, given that games in the list below with similar figures are either sequels, or have had further versions made or in progress, I'd say the same logic will apply to MAG.
From vgchartz -
MAG global sales - 1.25 million EXCLUDING DIGITAL SALES

CCP fanboy muppetry. Could you name other company that is capable to make a MMO that last 10 years for me, especially nowaday ? How many game have said company made ? Blizzard have made quite a few games. WoW did pretty well I'd say. Wasn't my thing, obviously wasn't yours. I gave up playing PC games when I got my ps3. You could class d2 as an MMO. Up to a point. That game was the best :D But anyway, CCP made a great game with EvE but it's not exactly high paced moment to moment game play. It's a large part of why I can't get into EvE. Freelancer was better, but not really MMO. (ps Discovery Mod is essential to freelancer. 144 player 23/7 server is the awesomeness. Must log in again sometime). I just have no more faith in CCP than any other company developing it's second major release. im bored are you ?
Bored of dust. But after my morning walk, chin ups and breakfast it will be time to put in six to eight hours on Planetside 2.
When I play dust, it keeps my attention for maybe two hours maximum in any one sitting, before it gets boring and frustrating. |

I wouldn't say that it's sound logic considering that the majority of these games mentioned were developed by studios not subsidiaries of Sony. Here's some sound logic for you.If you were so sure that MAG would get a sequel, then why did Sony have Zipper work on another SOCOM game (that was a total failure),and even after that,a game for the Vita,Unit 13?Answer,because they have no interest on another MAG title, end of story. If they would've been interested in another MAG,they wouldn't have shut Zipper down, and they would have had them developing it right now as we speak,so that it could be ready for the PS4's launch. As it is,they let the game lie in it's own grave, just waiting for the final step of someone to cover dirt over it. People need to wake up from their starry eyed fantasies of there ever being another MAG game.Like I said before, the only think that might happen is that Sony makes a game very similar to MAG with more stuff to it and similar gameplay mechanics, but not having the MAG title.
Zipper were working on something when shut down.
Sony was greedy, that's why they sacrificed quality for cost on socom and same reason they stopped work on MAG.
And you obviously don't know the industry - because - top of the list - Kill zone - is made by a fully owned subsiduary of Sony.
When Forgelight engine is released for PS4, the MAG 2 talk will become official. Wait and see.

And please, just tell me who is going to develop it anyway? Oh,and how in the hell does not supporting a game make you greedy?
I'd say the developer will remain confidential till announced....
And when I say greed, its pretty simple...MAG was unfinished, Clan wars should have been added, but Sony told Zipper to focus on getting another release out to generate fresh revenue, rather than fixing a product that they already had taken money for, made promises about, but then not implemented...
If MAG had a proper clan war system, with a clan league table, a lot of people here would not be here....because that type of competitive team play environment is what people liked, indeed why many thought that corporation battles in dust could be the substitute for lack of clan war in MAG......
But all of this is not related to the topic.
Point remains that dust is a shambles that needs a lot of work, probably 2-3 years, before it could be considered an AAA FPS release.
If ccp are hiding a better version, let's see it then.

Biggest clue yet! Not really, and I haven't been on that board in at least 5 months, and don't miss it one bit. Again, keep dreaming.
And they used to say there would be no sequel to Planetside. But I'm playing the beta daily.
Planetside was the inspiration for MAG. History will and does always repeat.
